Shiny People Nomination Form

In search of regular people who shine especially bright.

One of the best things about interview podcasts is the intimacy that can be fostered through the format. A person’s voice is in my kitchen, in my car, in my ear, and I feel them as much as hear them. I learn something, some of that day’s loneliness abates, and I feel more connected to Team Human.

But so many podcast guests are people who have cleared some societal bar of fame or accomplishment.

Of course it’s fascinating to hear about “top performers,” to do a deep dive with someone who has made a movie or album or written a book or mastered a sport or used their leadership skills to inspire change. In the interviews I enjoy the most, the relatable humanity of even the most impressive people is apparent.

But sometimes I find myself searching for a deep dive with a person who is simply - and perhaps spectacularly - good at living a less publicly broadcast life.

5 times a season on my podcast, I interview a regular, non-famous (for now!) person.

I want to interview people who are known for being wonderful. The kind of people you're simply so glad to be around, who brighten up and ease the atmosphere in a room when they arrive, who inspire you to be a better version of yourself. They might have other talents and achievements, and they might have rough edges and even a history of screw-ups, but they are fundamentally and impressively good at being human beings, if you know what I mean.

I want to pick their brains about how they got to be the way they are, how they sustain it, how we can learn from them. I want to celebrate what they contribute. I want you to know about them, and benefit from their shine.

If you would like to suggest any such people simply fill out the form below.

You are welcome to nominate yourself, of course. If you’re shiny and you know it, you might as well own it!
